Hello Viktoria and thank you for reading and engaging. I always miss the exquisite joy of receiving a letter! What a precious opportunity you have to exchange letters with your mother-in-law: I'm sur he appreciates them a lot.
A lovely reflection on letters, a few months ago my cousin sent me a package of old postcards sent by my parents to my grandparents. You are right, you can hear the undertones of their words, the messages not written, or is that just me seeing the unseen stories from knowledge gained after their deaths. xxx
This is really beautiful, Sofia. I remember such times, waiting eagerly for the postman. Your postman is full of vitality from start to finish greeting his eager customers. How lucky you are to have saved many of those old family letters and will be able to experience the flow of memories and voices and images and mixed feelings as you read them. How special to reconnect with new insights! Thank you for sharing so poignantly and stirring in me memories of my letter writing times.
As always, Sophia, so beautifully put … I have a habit of curating notes and letters in books. This habit has led to pleasant, heartwarming surprises. Revisiting the notes and letters, especially from friends and relatives no longer with us, rekindles the connection in my heart and mind.
It is such a pity that letter writing has gone out of fashion. An email simply isn’t the same. I still write letters to my mother-in-law who is deaf and in a nursing home and and every now and then, I’ll write letters to overseas friends. There’s nothing like the joy of receiving a hand written envelope with a letter tucked inside. I’m so glad you found the few in your garage. I’m sure they’ll bring back many joyful memories.
