Catching up on people whose writing I admire as I explore Substack. I love your stories, Sofia. I am touched by your humanity. Your stories connect me to my humanness. I feel through your experiences. Such a gift.
Sofia, thank you for this wonderful piece. You make important points and I share your view that one of the most powerful images of the current uprising is the solidarity shown by women in hijab. I would appreciate gaining more insight into your choice, though. A subject you touch on but not in any great depth or detail ... your journey toward this choice could be so enlightening, especially for a western audience.
My dear Layli, I don't know how I managed to miss your comment - sharmandeh! I probably missed the notification. Thank you for your comment and for reading my piece; it is definitely something I want to return to eventually, and dig further to find the depth and the detail. I hope your writing is going well!
Sorry it took me so long to read this piece, and thank you for sharing it. I am always curious about the hijab, why it is worn, and what it signifies to the wearer, but am usually too unsure of the reply to actually ask the question.
Thank you for reading and engaging, Tracy. It is such a complex topic, so I see what you mean; one can never be sure how a question will be received. I find that compassionate curiosity is usually well received.
Thanks for sharing this piece, Sofia. I am glad that you were able to give yourself the extra time you needed. As always your writing makes me both think and feel, thank you!
